I had a shoot near Lake Harriet on Saturday around sunset, and I stuck around with my tripod earlier to photograph the moon rising above the lake. Oh man, I'm so glad I did! (And might I suggest everyone grab some popcorn and do this some summer evening? So relaxing...)The moon looks oranger than usual, I think, because it was a very hazy day, and lots of haze is what also makes sunsets extra pinkish. Also, as it got darker and darker and darker, I noticed an orange star near the moon. I found out later that it was Mars! What a fun thing to spot! For your internet shares of the day:+ The new Star Trek trailer had me squealing in delight+ And in other nerd news, I might need to buy this+ Last weekend I posted this on Facebook ... I am still laughing about this amazing woman so I thought I'd share it here.
I think you all know how much I love living in Minneapolis. And how much I love my neighborhood. And how much I love walking around my neighborhood to support local businesses.Well you guys? It all just got so much better! Now, I'm not meaning to insult any of the other local bakeries etc in the 'hood, but the coffee in my neighborhood? It sucked. We had a mediocre bakery and a less-than-mediocre coffee shop here... until yesterday. That was when Rose Street Patisserie finally opened it's doors (I literally have been walking by this place every day for the last 7 weeks waiting for the doors to open!).First off, just look at those pastries. The place is owned by Patisserie 46, one of my very favorite bakeries in town. Just amazing. And not only do the treats taste phenomenal, but just look at them! And then... then! They are serving Intelligentsia coffee! Be still my heart! In other words, Shuttersmack HQ might have a new satellite office, and I might put on 30 pounds this week.

For your internet shares of the day:I loved this read on packing for vacations. Mostly because daydreaming about travel is my no. 1 hobby. The most beautiful way to fly. If you are a gazillionaire. And lastly, Mick Jagger makes me laugh. Happy Friday, y'all!
When one of your very best friends is in town for a quick work trip, but brings her new little boy that you've never met before, and she stops by your house on her way from the airport to her mom's house? You take 10 minutes of that short visit and force them into the photo studio. It's just what you do. Or what I do, anyway.Isn't he adorable? For your internet shares of the day:This would make world-wide travel even more amazing. Imagine never needing to learn a foreign language! I mean, I think it's a great skill to have. But when we went to Hungary a few years back? Um, we'll just say that our feeble attempts to learn that language failed. Holy cow, I don't even know how they invented this, but it might be my favorite invention EVER. Well, after the iPhone.I loved this story about how Robin Wright can be just as bad ass as Claire Underwood.
Last weekend I was hired to take photos of the Hola Arepa 2 year anniversary party. This was a dream assignment because a) I *love* the food at Hola Arepa. I have been a huge fan since I tried their food truck years ago, and I adore their restaurant as well and b) This party was amazeballs. There was so much good energy and wonderful weather and fantastic music and salsa dancing and everywhere you looked people were smiling. It was such a lovely evening. I posted a few of my favorite shots below. And yes I tried the Dorilocos. And they were FANTASTIC. Don't judge until you try it.
For your internet shares of the day, I love this idea of forest bathing. And it sounds like most people are against the Ghostbusters remake, but I think it looks fun!
Well, isn't she lovely?I got to photograph this beauty before her big dance last weekend. Because it was *freezing* outside on the day of our shoot, we decided to move everything into to the studio at the last minute. I didn't want this to look like a Sears portrait session (uh, sorry if any of my readers are photographers for that retailer...), so I decided to pitch something more editorial. And we had a blast! And I am so glad we did this. A little back story, Erin wanted to wear sneakers with her dress to the prom. Her mother wanted heels. We shot both.

For your internet shares of the day, flank steak is my favorite and I highly suggest you all make friends with it this summer. Also, I found the recipe for the best bbq sauce on the planet (from Salt Lick near Austin, of course). And I loved this article about slowing down summer for kids.
Three years ago today, I brought home this little lady to live with us. What a time that was... she would wake us up at 4:30 or 5 am to go for walks, and she would wake us up by clawing and biting at our faces. I remember thinking this must be what new parents of babies must feel like. Well... not really. Ezra might have woken me up at all hours for a full 14 mos., but he never attacked my face... so... (but he's not as good at snuggling as the Vizsla is, that's for sure).Anyway, today *also* marks 21 years since I asked Jamie out on our first date where we ate delicious chinese food and he plied me with Rolling Rock beer as we talked about music on a balcony overlooking a Burger King. You only dream of romance like that. But seriously, I got the best man on the planet and you'll have to find your own damn Romeo to buy you your Rolling Rock. For your internet share today (ladies), I bought this dress online this week and it arrived today and is as comfy as pajamas and I will likely live in it all summer. I invite you to do the same.
Today Jamie and I took a nice walk around the lake with Magda. And on this walk, we spied more baby geese! They are everywhere right now -- and it's so much fun! Where was The Spawn, you ask? He was in daycare. We have decided to take a day or two off each quarter where we spend time just as a couple. Sometimes we watch sports on TV. Sometimes we go to museums. Today, we walked around the lakes and had a delicious lunch before cozying up on the sofa and catching up on The Americans. It was glorious -- I highly suggest this form of cheap "vacation" for all parents. We have rules, like no chores allowed, no typical errands allowed etc etc. It is all about what we want to do, and it is glorious.A bit of a damper was that a former colleague of mine, who I always adored, unexpectedly passed away yesterday. You can read her obituary here. No internet shares today. Get off the computer and go hug the ones you love the most.
I had an early morning shoot today over in Plymouth, and we headed to this awesome little park near the family's home. When we arrived, I spotted a few geese, and then these adorable goslings. (Pronounced just like Ryan the celebrity, in case you were unaware.) Ezra's favorite book right now is about goslings, so I snapped this photo so he could see them up close.Oh, and do I have some internet shares for you today!+ Ever wonder what it would be like to be a surrogate mother? (I would love to think I would do this for a friend... but... yeah.)+ These photos and story of what some sailors saw at sea totally blew me away. I had no idea. I've looked at it more than once today.+ One of the many amazingly talented Minneapolis musicians dropped a new video today, and I love it. And it has me dancing in my chair. Turn up the volume, people.
