Look! That right there is a fresh, hot raised donut with maple frosting and a slice of bacon on top. Mmmhmmm. This morning we ventured over to St. Paul to check out the new Mojo Monkey donut shop in town. Since I'm on this diet, I just had a few bites of a krueller with chocolate frosting and one or two pumpkin-egg-nog donut holes. Jamie got a Mocha Mousse which was infused with espresso-chocolate mousse.

I was also tempted by the Elvis Fritter which was banana flavored donut with caramel, peanut butter and chocolate. However, I decided that just might be too rich for my blood.
Damn, he is one handsome dog.

I spent the day working at home. One thing about this class is that sometimes I need examples of good/bad photography and I can't find exactly what I need online (that is available to use). So today I just started using the dogs as models and shooting them the "wrong" way and then improving the shot by using a better angle or whatever. This was one of the shots I improved, and damn if I just fell in love with my dog all over again.

Also, I've been using Pinterest to get even more inspired lately. If you haven't checked that site out yet, you can see my inspiration boards here. Check out the dogs! Wow, I want to shoot more stuff like that.

I'm working on an upcoming project with Spruce, a new florist in town, and so I got to meet the owner Amy today. A little more like late October, eh? This morning the fog was back, so I stopped by Lake Harriet to shoot the running paths. To the right of this path is the wide open frozen lake and to the left is a very thin strip of woods before the million-dollar homes. It was super peaceful and nice down there today. Some of you guys love your sunshine and blue skies -- it puts you in a happy zone. But me? This is the weather that makes me happiest. It makes me think of wool blankets, fires crackling in the living room and a tasty cup of coffee. Yup, this is my time.

It was super foggy when I left for class early this morning, and I was hoping campus would be all eerie with the mist and make for haunting photos ... but it cleared up by the time I arrived. I did snap an image of the library though, just because I am personally fascinated by the idea of a University Library and how much use such buildings are getting now with this whole "internet sensation" thing that has happened. When I think back to college and how amazing Google could have made my experience, I'm kind-of floored.

Anyway, I do think the buildings at the U of M are quite lovely. In fact, when I was in high school I applied to Minnesota, but never visited or took it seriously because all of the materials that were sent to me showed Washington Ave. and it looked extremely urban to me. I really wanted a more traditional campus feel, and I think had they sent me photos of these older buildings and all the green space, I might have given it more of a chance. Well... let's be real. They also would have needed to improve their basketball program.

And alas, I can't write this post without linking to my alma mater's library, which I have always found to be gorgeous in its church-like architecture.
We spent a little time running errands over in Northeast Minneapolis today, and on our way back down to our 'hood we crossed through downtown. Oh, and for the out-of-towners, yes, our sunsets are at 4:15 pm in January.

After errands, my man took me out for a *delicious* dinner at Tilia. Tonight we had our annual "Hotness Happy Hour" for vita.mn. This is an event where we do a big photo shoot with the 12 finalists for our "hotness" contest. Yes, this contest is what it sounds like. People submit photos, site users vote, finalists are selected and we host a happy hour to meet them all and learn about their back story (and to take their photos for the magazine). We also supply hair and makeup touchups (as you can see above) so the contestants feel confident in front of the camera.

I have to say, each year I am pleasantly surprised at all the interesting folks and conversations. Tonight I had long talks about high school basketball, the art of coaching, a Motorhead show at First Avenue, volunteering more time for kids, painting murals that take up entire rooms of your house and landscape architecture. Another twelve hours of work, but the last four were entertaining to say the least.
